Walking the Streets of Old Seville
We arrived in Seville at 6 p.m. and had three hours of free time before dinner at 9 p.m. That gave me the chance to join Devi and Bianca for the opportunity to stroll through the streets of old Seville.
We walked down incredibly narrow streets in no seeming order. Many of the apartments are tremendously ornate with second-story ledges just wide enough to set out flowers.
As we arrived at the center, we walked under purple flowering trees and along flower towers that were simply breathtaking. We’d occasionally come across belltowers that reminded me of the Plaza and Kansas City back home. You see, the premier architect of Kansas City had traveled all of Europe to come up with a motif for his grand shopping region and decided to base his design on the streets of old Seville.
At the city center, each region of the country presented a tile depiction of a famous event from that region. For example, one graphic showed natives from America that Christopher Columbus had brought back from America.
Our Spanish walkabout was enhanced because Bianca has been to Seville before and speaks Spanish fluently, and she acted as our tour guide and interpreter.
Wandering back to our hotel we took the scenic route along the river and enjoyed watching kayakers and children playing and couples strolling. This stroll through Old Seville with the cafes and parks and laughter will provide me with memories to last this lifetime.

Where did you eat dinner in Old Seville? I will be going on a art and architecture tour in Spain in October and read your highlight obout the Cafe near the Opera house yesterday so I thought you might have another suggestion for dining.

The Cafe was actually the Opera House Cafe and they sang opera from time to time as we dined and chatted. We also ate in a really cozy restaurant recommended by local Spaniards but I failed to get the address.
I’d suggest you leave time to just meander around Old Seville, eat ice cream and sip lemonade on the street. The flowers hanging from the narrow balconies on the side streets are quite breathtaking and will get the wife jealous when you get back.
Or so I’m told.
Enjoy Seville.
