ABB to Provide AmerenUE Hydro Plant with Equipment for Improved Functionality, Reliability
ABB wins order to retrofit AmerenUE Taum Sauk Hydroelectric plant with their complete iICE engineered solution
Orlando, Florida, December 2, 2008 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology company, announced today that it has won an order to provide power plant equipment for the AmerenUE Taum Sauk Pump Storage Hydro plant in Missouri.
ABB will implement a completely integrated Instrumentation, Control and Electrical (iICE) solution to help retrofit the plant, allowing for improved functionality, reliability and modernization. The Taum Sauk power station is a 440 megawatt (MW) pump storage hydro plant comprised of two units. The total project value is $11.5 million and is scheduled for operation by December 2009.
The scope will include ABB products and systems from four divisions – Power Products, Power Systems, Process Automation and Automation Products. This includes instrumentation, medium & low voltage MCC’s and switchgear, protection system, AC/DC auxiliaries, and System 800xA Extended Automation for the control system including the governor. This turnkey project includes all associated engineering, installation supervision, commissioning, and training.

The announcement was made at the Power-Gen International Conference & Exhibition in Orlando.
